ABOUT
ALPISTO.

A small engineering practice founded in Tolmin, Slovenia. Boutique by choice — one senior engineer, a small roster, billed in EUR.

● 01 — Alpisto d.o.o.

The company.

Alpisto d.o.o. is a Slovenian engineering company founded in Tolmin. We operate as a boutique consulting practice focused on R&D engineering problems — specifically the kind that sit at the boundary between scientific computing and production software.

Our business model is simple: project-based engagements billed in EUR, plus our own hardware product line, FlyBeeper. Building it end-to-end — nRF52 firmware to FastAPI backends to the web shop — keeps our production skills sharp.

● 02 — Evgeny Istomin

The engineer.

portrait / 1:1

20+ years in electrical power-systems engineering, followed by a deliberate move into software. Worked on state estimation, OPF, and protection relay logic in legacy MATLAB and C++ — then on the other side, migrating those systems to Python.

Since 2020 the stack has expanded to embedded firmware (ESP32, nRF52, Zephyr RTOS), event-driven backends (FastAPI, NATS, MQTT), scientific Python (NumPy, SciPy, pandapower) and BLE sensor fusion. All of this runs in FlyBeeper, which ships to real customers.

Based in Slovenia. Works in English and Slovenian. Takes on a small number of consulting clients at a time to keep quality high.

● 03 — Trajectory

TWENTY YEARS,
FOUR DOMAINS.

2003–2017
POWER SYSTEMS
Substation automation, state estimation, OPF, protection relay logic. MATLAB and C++ codebases for utility-scale grids.
2017
ALPISTO FOUNDED
d.o.o. registered in Tolmin. First independent consulting engagements — MATLAB-to-Python ports.
2018
FLYBEEPER F1
First own hardware. 50 g GPS + LoRa + BLE flight instrument. Discontinued 2023, but the software stack lives on.
2020
EMBEDDED + BACKENDS
Stack expansion: nRF52, Zephyr RTOS, FastAPI, NATS, MQTT. Hardware + cloud, in production.
2023
FLYBEEPER MINI BT
Current shipping product. Reviewed 8.38/10 by testfly.me. Validates the end-to-end stack.
2026
BOOKING
MATLAB → Python practice open. Other lines listed as coming soon to keep quality controllable.
● 04 — How we work

FIVE
RULES.

These are not aspirations. They are how engagements actually run. If a rule is going to be broken on your project, we tell you up front.

01
HANDS-ON
No PowerPoint consulting, no offshore handoffs. The engineer named on the proposal is the engineer writing the commits.
02
WORKING CODE
We ship tests, CI, and documentation when the scope calls for it. The handover survives our last invoice.
03
SHORT FIRST
We prefer short paid engagements that prove fit before scaling up. One-week audit before anything bigger.
04
IP RESPECT
We respect NDAs, IP boundaries, and your existing team dynamics. We do not subcontract without telling you.
05
HONEST NO
If we can't help, we'll tell you so instead of taking the money. The pipeline is full enough to be picky.

A SHORT EMAIL
IS PLENTY.

The best way to start is a short email describing the problem. No RFPs, no NDAs before hello. If we can't help, we'll tell you so.
